Dining Hall Ideas (FOOOOD)

People tend to relate college food to cup of noodles and mac and cheese heated up in the microwave. First of all, cup of noodles has little flavor compared to Sapporo Ichiban, trust me, its a MUCH better option if you're still looking to be unhealthy ^__^ so much flavor.. Some of my favorite things to eat are actually individual things from different parts of the dining hall that I compile together to make some things that are similar to what i make back home. For example, we have an omelet station at school.. egg whites and veggies are always the way to go, the only downside is the amount of oil they use. Sometimes I even use my own kitchen located within the dorms (the community kitchen) and whip up my own eggs. This way, I'm only using a little bit of pam, at home I usually use coconut oil, which is a healthier option.

Another thing i like to make in dining hall is oatmeal with some honey and dried fruit, this is good when I have a long day ahead of me. With my oatmeal I usually get some coffee (add one splenda and a splash of almond milk) and 2-3 hard boiled eggs (egg whites only) Occasionally i cut up a banana and add that to my oatmeal too.

Another breakfast option for my sweet tooth is rice cereal with fruit on top and then a sprinkle of chocolate chips. I mean, sometimes I can't help waking up craving chocolate! I typically have my cereal with a side of eggs (NO CHEESEEE) then grab a banana or an apple to eat later in my day.

For lunch, I like to keep my meal light because I don't like feeling weighed down at practice. I used to eat bigger portions of meat and veggies but lately I just stick to salads with light toppings (no cheese, bacon, or heavy dressing) usually just balsamic and olive oil, or even marinara sauce is yummy.. and some fruit! Today I opted for what I already had in my dorm and went for a tuna packet without the crackers and half of a banana. I ate lighter for lunch because I had a TON of fruit as well as some almond butter with my banana and an omelet for breakfast.

As far as dinner goes, it is always my toughest meal to keep in line. After practice, I tend to want to reward myself more and eat more because I used to always eat at 5:30pm right when the dining hall opens. Back home, I would eat dinner around 7:00pm and have a small snack before then... I have realized that eating this early (5:30pm) always makes me starving right before bed time, causing me to binge eat... not good! So now I wait, and I get in some protein and veggies at dinner. It's okay to slip up here and there, I do it more than enough! But i make sure to keep my meals in portion and I usually don't eat bread, pasta, or any whole grain bars because those carbs come naturally from fruit and vegetables, which a lot of people don't realize.
Sweet potatoes are also an easy thing to keep in the dorm, I microwave mine by poking some holes in one with a fork and covering it with a damp paper towel, super easy. I just add some mustard on top. I recommend mustard or hot sauce because other sauces and condiments aren't so great for you (such as ranch or bbq sauce.)

ANOTHER THING-- if you have a magic bullet, or a small blender.. this is the best small meal or snack (especially for late nights when i have a craving) 1- grab 3 bananas 2- peel them 3- put them in a bag 4- freeze them overnight 5- put the bananas in the magic bullet along with a splash of chocolate coconut milk or chocolate almond milk (or plain) 5- add some PB2 (look it up, powdered HEALTHY alternative to peanut butter, a must) and blend !!!!! It's amazing and tastes like a chocolate covered banana. Sometimes I even just snack on the little slices of frozen bananas I eat. HIGHLY RECOMMEND ((((: Have a Nice Day!
